Il progetto Axanar è molto interessante. Alec Peters, con già qualche esperienza in Star Trek New Voyages, e Christian Gossett hanno messo in piedi una macchina produttiva per realizzare un vero e proprio lungometraggio indipendente di Star Trek. Con grandi ambizioni, a partire dal cast che include attori di tutto rispetto: Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), Tony Todd (Star Trek), Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), Gary Graham (Star Trek Enterprise), J.G. Hertzler (Deep Space Nine).
Come finanziare un progetto del genere? Le regole della Paramount sono chiare: hai il permesso di girare film amatoriali usando l'universo di Star Trek a patto che non vendi nulla: biglietti, dvd, gadget tratti dal film. Ma il mondo moderno offre una scappatoia: il cosiddetto crowd funding. I due hanno quindi aperto una campagna su Kickstarter chiedendo diecimila dollari di finanziamento. Ne hanno raccolti centomila.
Per lanciare la campagna Gossett e Peters hanno girato un corto, questo Prelude to Axanar, girato con lo stile dei documentari di National Geographic. L'ambientazione "storica" è interessante e riguarda la guerra durata quattro anni tra la Federazione e l'Impero Klingon, avvenuta una ventina d'anni prima degli eventi della Serie classica.(Fonte: fantascienza.com)

Prelude to Axanar (working title: Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar, and long title: The Four Years War Part III: Prelude to Axanar) is a 2014 American fan made short film, directed by Christian Gossett and written by Christian Gossett and Alec Peters. Funded through Kickstarter, production sought $10,000 in funding, but raised $101,000. It had its public debut July 26, 2014 at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Set in the Star Trek universe, the film stars Kate Vernon, Tony Todd, Richard Hatch, Gary Graham, and J. G. Hertzler, in a documentary-style film recounting the events surrounding the Battle of Axanar, a major clash between the Federation and the Klingons.
